GROWTH MINDSETS- LESSON 4

REFLECTING ON GROWTH MINDSETS

Have a go at this paper cutting challenge in your class. Consider the statement below:

"EVERYTHING IS HARD, BEFORE IT IS EASY." (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe)

DISCUSS: to what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement? Explain / justify your position?

PART 1- (5 MINUTES)

Rationale

  • Learning starts with a mindset. Every skill we have ever learned has been developed over time- by wiring our brain circuitry to carry out the function.

Learning objectives

By the end of this lesson, learners should:

  • reflect on their learning about growth mindsets
  • record and communicate their informed position about the brain, neuroplasticity, growth mindsets and their performance

PART 2- watch, reflect, discuss- (15 MINUTES)

As students watch, they are to record a couple of dot points in their workbook about how this clip either challenges or confirms their understanding of the growth mindset? (or both) At the end, teachers to facilitate a class discussion.

PART 3- 5 MINUTES- watch and discuss

Michael Jordan explains some keys to success in sports and life. A unique collection of clips and quotes to inspire, motivate and move you forward.

PART 4- 15-20 MINUTES GROWTH MINDSET REFLECTION ACTIVITY

After reflecting on both clips and what you have learned earlier in THRIVE Series 1 or 2, write a 100-200 word summary of what you know about the relationship between your brain, neuroplasticity, growth mindsets and performance.
