ARE WE CLOSE TO A TIPPING POINT? (PART 2- LEADERSHIP SKILLS FOR A BETTER WORLD)

Recently I shared about Fullan and Gallagher’s startling prediction, that the human race is getting increasingly close to a tipping point that could go either way: toward flourishing or radical decline.

In “The Devil is in the Details” Fullan and Gallagher observe that “the world is rapidly and increasingly becoming more troubled to the point that literacy, numeracy, high school graduation, and the like may be important foundational goals but are no longer nearly up to the challenges we face. Our students need these foundational goals; however, they also need much more.

Students need to consider how they can think globally and act locally. For our world to thrive, we need our students to become strong leaders who:

  • are trustworthy, respectful, principled

  • care about people, the environment and the 17 sustainable development goals

  • will take positive action.

  • seek to serve rather than be served.

  • seek to unite, rather than divide.

  • seek to contribute to people and the world around them, rather than focus on greed and taking whatever they can get for themselves

  • who are mentally tough enough to handle the complex challenges ahead

  • Seek to lift others up, rather than put others down.

This won’t happen by magic. These skills need to be taught. Students need the opportunity to practice these skills before they have the weight of the world on their shoulders.

Today, I’d like to share with you Part 2 of our solution. This is our most comprehensive offering yet, as there is a huge need for this.

In addition to our exceptional student leadership workshops, Equip Leadership (for Secondary Schools) and Aspire Higher (for Primary Schools), we are now offering Positive Impact packages.

Our Positive Impact packages support your students with real, authentic, meaningful leadership development experiences that will have a POSITIVE IMPACT on your school community. Your students will learn from us and then apply the learning to their own context. This will help them to practice the skills of leadership that will set up your school (and our world) to move toward flourishing, instead of radical decline.

Positive Impact Packages are limited, subject to availability in each city (Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane).

UPP’s Positive Impact Packages are not just about the positive impact our team will have on your students, it is about the positive impact your students will have on the world.
