Last week was Mental Health Week with World Mental Health Day on the 10th of October. At UPP we are passionately focused on teaching and developing good mental health in school communities.
Compassion is “sympathetic concern for the sufferings or misfortunes of others” (Oxford Dictionary 2018). So often, we are compassionate towards others, and yet we don’t offer ourselves the same level of concern.
Teachers serve students in the hope of a brighter future, which goes beyond themselves. Being a teacher is more than a job for most of us. We are creating a better future by caring for and educating the next generation.
As teachers, sometimes we are our own worst enemy when it comes to the expectations we place on ourselves. We care about what we do, we strive to meet the needs of our students and the job has no end.
