LEADING FROM THE FRONT

LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT

FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL STUDENT LEADERS

Leading from the Front is specifically designed for formal student leaders at the end of Year 5 or the beginning of Year 6. It provides targeted support for students who have been entrusted with the responsibility of leading their school in a formal capacity.

The program includes multiple touchpoints throughout the year — including a mid-year check-in — to help leaders stay on track, balancing their personal schoolwork with their commitment to serve the school community.

Program Purpose

This engaging, relevant, and flexible process gives student leaders a clear set of steps to help them:

  • Appreciate that leadership is service to the school community

  • Recognise and value the unique strengths each team member brings

  • Work together as a cohesive unit

  • Generate a clear vision for their leadership year

  • Turn ideas into action instead of just talking about them

  • Communicate their vision with confidence and impact

  • Leave a positive legacy at the end of their leadership term

Workshop Structure: Leading From the Front Full-Day Experience

Session 1- Everyday Leadership – Leading through service, action, and example. Reinforcing that leadership is a responsibility, not a reward.

Session 2- T.E.A.M.S. – Building teamwork skills through engaging challenges and activities that highlight the power of achieving more together.

Session 3-  Getting Ideas into Action – Generating leadership ideas linked to leadership roles and aligned with the year’s vision and developing practical action plans using UPP’s proven Idea to Action framework, refined over more than a decade in hundreds of Australian schools.

What our partner schools say

“WOW! What a brilliant day! Pete had the kids attention and they were motivated and fully engaged all day. We look forward to booking you in next year. Thanks for such a great service.”
— Anthony McCluskey- Principal- St Mary MacKillop Primary School, Keilor Downs
Yesterday was fantastic! Matt and Cole were wonderful presenters. The students from primary and secondary schools were all fully engaged and loved the activities Matt and Cole ran with them. There was such a lot of enthusiasm in the room. I had positive feedback from all the teachers involved with the students and as I also had all the Principals here for a meeting, and the Director- we all joined in for a while too! A great program and looking forward to Day 2.
— Narelle Kessey, Principal, Great Lakes Learning Community
I was wanting to send you a tremendous shout out to Cody for his facilitation of the students yesterday. He has a wonderful rapport with young people and it is clear he works in this style of leadership training for a reason. Thank you again for overseeing the organisation for the day.
— Michelle Kotzas, Assistant Principal - Pastoral Care, St Anthony's Catholic College, Deeragun and St Margaret Mary's College, Hyde Park, Townsville
“It was absolutely incredible. I was blown away by the attention to detail, careful balancing of theory and practice, the carefully sequenced activities that built towards independence, the quality of the presenters, the workbook - everything. It was just so good, so impressive. Went way beyond what I expected. It was like you developed the ideal version of what I wanted the session to be, beyond what I thought could be included. So impressed. You all went above and beyond for this one.”
— Daniel Pozarik - Classroom Teacher - Randwick Public School, Sydney

Praise for UPP from students and teachers

I enjoyed the leadership day with UPP because of the interactive learning experiences. The instructors incorporated humour into their messages. My favourite activity was the epic race. I liked this because it was an engaging activity for all of the Year 6 cohort. Overall, I really enjoyed this learning experience.” – Jasper - Yr 6 Student

“Unleashing Personal Potential (UPP), has really opened my eyes to see what it truly means to be a leader. I’ve learnt that you can lead with or without a badge and that to be a great leader you need to lead by example. I now know that to be a leader I should know my strengths and accept that there are different types of leaders. The UPP team taught us to follow the acronym A.S.P.I.R.E. (Action, Serve, Persist, Influence, Respect and Encourage), and to learn how to be trusted to work well with others, involve others and LISTEN. I believe that our Leadership Day really helped me fully understand what it means to be a leader. “ - Jemimah - Yr 6 Student

I really enjoyed the activities and how they made everyone co-operate. I think this is a great idea, and I think a lot of kids will benefit from it. – Noah- Yr 6 Student
