PEER MENTORING

A WORKSHOP FOR STUDENT MENTORS & BUDDIES

Our Peer Mentoring Workshop is designed for Year 5 and Year 6 students who serve as peer mentors, buddies, or part of a peer support team. It equips them with the skills and confidence to positively guide and support younger students—both formally and informally—through example, service, and genuine connection.

Participants learn how to build rapport, communicate effectively, solve problems, and be positive role models. They develop listening skills, empathy, and leadership abilities that help them connect with their peers and younger students alike. The workshop can be delivered over one or two days, depending on your school’s needs.

Ideal for schools wanting to grow leadership capacity in senior students while helping younger students feel safe, supported, and connected, this workshop strengthens school spirit, builds community, and supports student wellbeing.

Two-Day Outline

  • Making the Shift to Mentor – Understanding the responsibilities of mentoring, building relational “bank accounts,” and setting an example by living “above the line.”

  • Strengthening Connections – Active listening, empathy, protective interrupting, and becoming an upstander rather than a bystander.

  • Problem Solving – Applying Michael Pohl’s POOCH model through interactive activities.

  • Communicating Effectively as a Mentor – Leading fun group activities while practising verbal and non-verbal communication skills.

  • Leading Large Groups – Using proven behaviour leadership methods to confidently guide group activities.

  • Practice Makes Progress – Applying all skills in real scenarios, with a focus on planning how to use them back in school life.

As usual, Cody was outstanding! The students were very receptive to his messages and are excited to be moving forward in their journey with greater direction and “know how”.
